Join our team

We are a new lab in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology at University of Michigan Medical School, and growing!

Please see below for current open opportunities in the lab and how to contact us.

  • Our lab is hiring a laboratory technician to help manage our mouse colony and learn mouse embryology experiments. Learn more and apply at the U-M careers website.

  • We are accepting students currently enrolled in PIBS for rotations.

To join our lab as a graduate student, you must first apply to the PhD Programs in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) at the University of Michigan. Nicole can mentor students in the CDB (Cell & Developmental Biology) and CMB (Cell & Molecular Biology) programs.

Current students should email nedwar@umich.edu to discuss potential rotation opportunities.

  • We are not currently accepting undergraduate students in the lab.

New opportunities will be listed here beginning September 2026.

  • We are open to considering prospective postdocs to join the lab no earlier than September 2026.

We are open to postdocs interested in joining the lab with complementary expertise in genetics, developmental biology, and/or cell biology. We are particularly excited to have expertise in heart or neural crest development for the lab’s future projects.

Applicants should e-mail nedwar@umich.edu with their CV and answer the following questions about their background and interests:

    1) What kind of research are you interested in pursuing?

    2) Why does our lab and research program interest you?

    3) Why do you think you would be a good fit for our lab?

  • We are happy to consider medical residents and clinical fellows interested in learning about basic science and embryology principles underlying the development of the gut tube. We require a minimum 6 month commitment for a research internship/placement. Please contact the PI at nedwar@umich.edu to discuss opportunities.
